Rethink your relationship with alcohol, on your terms.
If you've been wondering about your relationship with alcohol, or you'd like something to change and you're not sure where to start, you're in the right place. I'm a psychologist in Red Bank, NJ offering harm reduction therapy for alcohol and other substance use, in person and online across NJ, NY, and CT.
What harm reduction therapy is
It's therapy that starts with you and your goals, not a label or a rule. For some people the goal is drinking less. For others it's a break, or quitting for good. Either way, we look honestly at what's working, what isn't, and what you want your life to look like.
There's no shame or judgment here, and you don't need to have reached a crisis to get support.
What we'll do together
Get curious about what alcohol or drugs do for you: relief, connection, a way to switch off.
Build practical tools for cravings, urges, and hard moments, including mindfulness skills.
Look at what sits underneath, like anxiety, trauma, stress, and burnout.
Check in often and adjust the plan as your goals change.
You don't have to be sure
A lot of people start with me saying "I'm not sure I have a problem" or "I'm not sure I want to stop." That's a perfectly good place to begin.
Why work with me
I've spent 20 years helping people change their relationship with alcohol, other substances and behaviors. I taught substance use counseling and harm reduction at The New School, have trained clinicians along with city and state agencies, and wrote about bringing mindfulness into this work. What I care about most is how that shows up in the room: a collaborative, non-judgmental space built around what you want. I listen closely, and I stay with you when things get hard.

No. You don't need a label to get help.

AA and other peer groups such as Moderation Management and SMART Recovery are community support. Therapy is one-on-one with a clinician, built around your history and goals. Some of my clients do both, and some don't.

Many people do well with weekly outpatient therapy. If you need more, like medical detox or a higher level of care, I'll talk it through with you openly and help you find it.

Yes. Your care is protected under HIPAA, with a few legal exceptions, such as serious safety risks. I'll explain them in our first session.
