Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)

Deepening the Healing Process with KAP

How KAP Works

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is a collaborative therapeutic modality I offer in partnership with Journey Clinical to ensure your experience is safe, supported, and clinically effective.

In KAP, ketamine is used as a complement to psychotherapy to help eligible clients experience more frequent breakthroughs and sustained improvement in symptoms. I provide the psychotherapy portion of the experience, while Journey Clinical’s medical team supports you on all medical aspects. This includes determining eligibility, developing a custom treatment plan, prescribing the medicine and monitoring outcomes.

The process unfolds in three vital stages:

Why KAP?

Breaking Through the "Stuck" Patterns

We all have mental "grooves"— habitual ways of thinking and reacting to trauma, anxiety, or stress. When these grooves become deep, we feel stuck, even when we logically know we want to change.

Traditional psychotherapy is excellent at identifying these patterns, but sometimes the brain’s defense mechanisms make it difficult to shift them. Ketamine acts as a biological "reset," offering three distinct advantages:

  • Neuroplasticity (The Brain's Reset): Ketamine stimulates the release of glutamate, which triggers the growth of new neural connections. This creates a "window of plasticity" where your brain is more flexible and receptive to the new perspectives we discuss in therapy.

  • Lowering the "Inner Critic": KAP can temporarily quiet the Default Mode Network (DMN)— the part of the brain associated with rumination and the "ego." When this noise is turned down, you can process painful memories or complex emotions without the usual overwhelm or judgment.

  • A Shift in Perspective: Many clients describe the experience as "stepping back" from their lives. This bird’s-eye view allows you to see your challenges with more self-compassion and less fear, making the path forward feel visible again.

The Power of Integration

The medicine provides the window, but the therapy provides the change. Because I specialize in harm reduction and trauma-informed care, our integration sessions are designed to "anchor" the insights you gain during your KAP experience. We don't just talk about the journey; we use that newfound mental flexibility to build tangible, healthy habits in your daily life.
